Getting Started

Welcome Screen

On the Welcome screen there is a quick menu which allows you to easily enter a Destination, select My Places, set your Mode of travel and access our range of useful live information services. To close the quick menu, select the cross.

Quick Options

You can change the way your CoPilot Live is used for navigation through the Options button or the main Menu.

Once you’ve entered a destination and selected GO, CoPilot Live will calculate your route and begin guiding you.

Select the Options button in the driving view.

The following Options are available:

  • Switch between the 2D or 3D driving view.
  • Show the Safety View.
  • Display the Itinerary driving view.
  • Change the Volume using the < and > arrow buttons, or select Mute.
  • Select your Mode of Travel by choosing Auto, Walking, RV, Motorcycle or Bicycle.
  • Choose to display CoPilot Live in Portrait or Landscape.
  • Rotate map to swivel the map more to the left or right.
  • Show or hide a Compass in the map view.

Mode of Travel

Your CoPilot Live will work out the best route and guide you depending on how you’re travelling. Choose from Auto, Walking, RV, Motorcycle or Bicycle to set your mode of travel.

Setting a Destination

Entering an Address

  • Select Menu > Destination > Address.
  • Enter the town or city name of your destination.
  • Select the correct city or area when it appears in the list below. Scroll down to see more address options matching what you have typed.
  • Enter the first three or four letters of the street name. As you enter the street name CoPilot Live will list potential matches. Select the correct street name when it appears in the list below.
  • Enter a house number. Then select the house number you entered or the nearest house number. To skip this step, select No House Number.
  • CoPilot may display a list of address matches. Select your required address from the list.
  • If you select View on Map, a map of the address entered will be displayed.
  • Press Cross Street to select a street which intersects with the one you entered.
  • A screen will then appear confirming the address you entered.
  • Select GO to start navigating your route.

There’s more you can do before you start your journey.

  • Select Save as Favourite to add the address to your favourites list.
  • Select Show Route to set the routing type which best suits you.
  • Routing type: Choose whether you want CoPilot Live to always choose the route which is Quickest in time, Shortest in distance or the most Economic. You can also select a route to Avoid Expressways.
  • Toll Roads: Choose to Allow Tolls, Avoid Tolls if Possible or Always Avoid Tolls along your route.
  • Choose whether to display the routing type screen by checking or unchecking the box.

Tip: Destination Entry with a full postcode
In the UK or Netherlands, if you know the full postcode of your destination, select Menu > Destination > Address. Enter in the postcode. Select a street name and key in a house number then press Finish.

Points of Interest

CoPilot Live not only guides you to your destination, but also knows all the useful places you might need on your journey.
Running low on fuel? Looking for a place to park? Or wanting to find a nearby restaurant?
Your CoPilot Live comes with thousands of Points of Interest (POIs) like ATMs, restaurants, petrol stations and car parks to help make your journey easier.
You can search for Points of Interest found nearby, on your route or in a different city.

To set a Point of Interest as your destination:
1. Select Menu > Destination > Points of Interest.
2. Choose a location for where you would like to search for a POI. The options are:

  • Nearby – to find POIs close to your current location
  • In different city – to search for POIs in a particular town or city
  • On my route – to find POIs which are along your route

3. CoPilot Live will display a list of the most commonly used POI categories.

4. You can search for a POI by name, or by category. Commonly used POI categories are displayed on the first screen, including:

  • Gas stations
  • Restaurants
  • Hotels
  • Airports
  • ATMs
  • Commuter rail stations

You can select More Categories to scroll through additional POI categories.

5. Select a POI from the list to add it as a destination. CoPilot Live will display the POI on a map with address details and the phone number if available.

  • Press Call to ring the POI using your mobile device. For example, you may want to call a restaurant to reserve a table.
  • Select GO to start navigating to the POI.

You can also…

Narrow your search of POIs by selecting a sub category, if available. For example, if you fancy Indian cuisine, select Restaurant as your category, and then choose Indian as the specific POI sub category.

Search for a specific POI by its name, to do this select Search by Name. Start to type the name of the POI and select it when it appears in the list. For example, begin to type 'Lond' then pick 'London Eye' to add this tourist attraction as a destination.

Select Show Map to display all POIs search results on a map. To return to the POI search result list, select Show List.

To Choose a Contact's Address as a Destination

Note: This feature is not available for all Android phones. Currently only available on the HTC Hero.

Travelling to see your family, friends and colleagues is easy with CoPilot Live.

CoPilot Live can use the address of a person saved in your mobile devices’ address book, then guide you to see them without having to re-enter their address.

  • Select Menu > Destination > Contact.
  • Enter the first three or four letters of your contact name. As you do this, CoPilot Live will display a list of names starting with the first few letters you typed. Select your required contact from the list.

Note: You may need to enter the city, street name and house number of your Contacts’ address if CoPilot Live cannot recognize the address of your Contact.

Pick on Map

You can select a point on a map to enter it as your destination.

Select Menu > Destination > Pick on Map.

  • A map of the area around your current location will be displayed. Pan and zoom around the map and select your desired location when you find it.
  • Select GO to navigate there.

Intersection

You can set your destination at the point where two streets meet:

  • Select Menu > Destination > Intersection.
  • Enter the city/town name of your destination.
  • You will be asked to enter the first street and then the second intersecting street.
  • CoPilot will calculate your route to the point where the two streets meet.

Use PhotoNav to Select a Photo with Location Information

The PhotoNav feature is only available for mobile devices which have a camera that can capture geotagged photos. Please refer to your mobile devices' user manual for more information. Feature not currently available in CoPilot Live for Android phones or iPhone/iPad.

Discovering a quiet beach or a breathtaking view can make any journey worthwhile. Take a photo using the camera on your mobile device not only captures the moment, it can also record your exact GPS position meaning that CoPilot Live can bring you back to the same place again and again.

  1. First capture a photo at your current location. When you take a photo, your mobile device uses GPS to record your exact position and other location information which is stored with the photo.
  2. Select Menu > Destination > PhotoNav. A list of photos containing location information will be displayed. An image thumbnail for each photo is shown.
  3. Select the photo that shows the place you want to visit.
    CoPilot will display the place on a map, show the latitude and longitude of the destination, and display an image thumbnail of the photo.
  4. Select GO to begin navigating there.

Tip: Import photos with location information to your mobile device so you can navigate to them using PhotoNav. You can share photos with location information with others. Connect your mobile device to your PC using the sychronisation software and cable supplied with your phone, Then, use File Explorer to browse and copy these photos to either:

  • My Device > My Documents > My POI
  • My Device > Storage Card > My Documents > My POI

Tip: Send a photo with location information to others using e-mail or MMS. Refer to your mobile devices user manual for more details.

Use Coordinates to set a Destination

If you know the latitude and longitude of your destination, you can enter them directly into CoPilot Live.

  • Select Menu > Destination > Coordinates.
  • Choose to set the latitude and longitude in Degrees Minutes Seconds, Decimal Degrees or Decimal Minutes. You can also enter an Ordnance Survey Grid Reference.
  • Enter the latitude and longitude in the appropriate format depending on which option you selected.
  • Select GO to begin navigating your route.

My Places

My Places provides quick and easy access to your Home, Work, Recent and Favourite destinations.

Home

Save your home address so you don’t have to enter it every time you wish to be directed home.

  • Select Menu > My Places > Home.
  • Enter your home city/town name. Select the correct city or area when it appears in the list below the city field. Scroll down to see more address options matching what you have typed.
  • Enter your street name.
  • Enter your house number. Select the house number of the street entered, the nearest house number or No House Number.
  • Press GO.

Work

Save your work address so you don’t have to enter it every time you wish to be directed to work.

  • Select Menu > My Places > Work.
  • Enter your work city/town name.
  • Select the correct city or area when it appears in the list below the city field. Scroll down to see more address options matching what you have typed.
  • Enter your street name.
  • Enter the number of the street of your work address or select No House Number, to skip this step.
  • Press GO.

Recent

Recent provides quick and easy access to the last 50 destinations that you entered.

  • Select Menu > My Places > Recent.

Note: Your recent list will display your last 50 destinations. When the list is full, each new address will replace an older inactive address.

  • To navigate to one of your recent destinations, simply select a recent destination from the list then press GO.
  • To delete your recent destinations list, select Menu > My Places > Recent > Clear All.

Favourites

You can save destinations to your Favourites list, so you can access them quickly.

  • Select Menu > My Places > Favourites.

Save your favourite destinations

  • To add a new destination to your favourites list, select Add New.
  • Enter the destination by inputting an address or through any of the other ways to enter a destination.
  • When you've successfully added the address or location, it will appear in your favourites list.

Edit or Delete your Favourites

To edit or delete a location in your favourites list:

  • Press Edit.
  • Select a favourite then choose to Edit, Delete or Delete All.

Edit will open a screen which lets you enter a name for your favourite, change the address details, assign the favourite as Home, Work or Other.
Delete will erase the selected location.
Delete All will erase all the locations in your favourite(s) list including your Home and Work addresses.

Note: You will be asked to confirm you wish to delete an/all item(s). If you select Yes the address/es will be lost.

Quick Stop

Quick Stop helps you locate a petrol station, restaurant, hotel or vehicle repair centre near you, quickly and easy.

For example, when travelling on a long journey, you can use the Quick Stop feature to help you search for a local hotel and call them using your phone.

How to use Quick Stop to find a local facility

  1. Select Menu > Quick Stop.
  2. Select the type of facility you require. Choose from one of these options:
    • Gas station
    • Restaurant
    • Hotels
    • Vehicle repair
  3. Select a facility from the list or choose Search by Name to start typing the name of a facility and select the one you want when it appears in the list. For example, to look for a specific hotel, begin to type 'Hil' then select 'Hilton' to add this hotel as a destination.
  4. CoPilot Live will display the facility on a map with address details and the phone number if available.
  • Press Call to ring the facility using your mobile device.
  • Select GO for CoPilot Live to start guiding you to the facility.

You can also…

  • Select Show Map to display all nearby facilities on a map. To return to the facilities list, select Show List.
  • Press Cancel, to stop searching for facilities.

Detour

Once you have planned a route, you may need to take a detour or find an alternative route to reach your destination.

Here are some situations when the detour feature might be useful:

  • You notice traffic congestion, diversions and road works affecting your journey.
  • You need to travel to a certain place to pick up someone, stop at a store to collect some groceries, or go to a petrol station to fill up on fuel.
  • You might want to avoid roads close to schools during the rush hour.


Find an alternative route

  • To change your route select Menu > Detour > Alternate Route.
  • CoPilot Live will calculate an alternative to the route already planned. The best alternative route which CoPilot Live recommends is shown on a map.
  • If you want to use the alternative route to reach your destination, select Accept.
  • If you prefer to use the original route after all, select Decline.
  • Once you start travelling along the new route, if something unexpected happens, you can always return to your original route by selecting End Detour from the detour options.


Find an alternative road

To get around a road or junction which you would prefer to avoid to reach your destination:

  • Select Menu > Detour > Avoid Roads.
  • Use the itinerary to select the road you want to avoid from the list.

CoPilot Live will calculate an alternative route to avoid the road or junction you want to get around. The new route will use different roads to guide you to your destination.
A map and itinerary of the new route will be displayed together with any change in distance and time it has on your journey.

  • If you decide to avoid this road and use the alternative route, select Accept.
  • If you want to look for another different road, select Clear.
  • If you prefer to use the original route and not avoid any particular roads after all, select Cancel.

Once you start travelling along the new route, you can at anytime select Clear Avoided Roads to return to your original route.

CoPilot Live can only recommend an alternative route or different road when a sensible alternative exists.

Plan or Edit Trip

Important: For safety reasons, always plan your journey before you start driving and ensure that your device is securely mounted.

Entering Multiple Destinations for your Journey

Your CoPilot Live allows you to plan a journey that includes multiple destinations.

  • Select Menu > Plan or Edit Trip.
  • Then select Add Stop and choose Address.
  • Add the first address in the same way as described in the Entering an Address section.
  • Select Add Stop again to add your second, third, fourth, etc. addresses.

Customising your Journey

Once you have planned a journey with multiple destinations, you can change the order they appear in.

  • Select the destination you wish to move.
  • A pop-up menu will appear containing a list of options.
  • Select the Move Up, Move Down, Move to Start or Move to End button.
  • The selected stop will move to its new position in the trip list.

Show on Map

  • Select Menu > Plan or Edit Trip.
  • Select Add Stop and choose one of the destination entry options.
  • Select a destination from the Plan Trip list.
  • A pop-up menu will be displayed showing a list of options.
  • Select Show on Map to display the destination on a map.

Setting Waypoints

CoPilot can route you through a certain point without considering it as a stop. By setting Waypoints you can adjust CoPilot's route, to calculate a detour via the waypoint.

  • Select Menu > Plan or Edit Trip.
  • Select Add Stop and choose one of the destination entry options described in Setting a destination.
  • The destination entered will appear on the Plan Trip list as a Stop, with a flag icon next to it.
  • Select the destination you wish to change to a Waypoint.
  • A pop-up menu will appear containing a list of options. Select Set as Waypoint.
  • The address will now be listed as a Waypoint, with an arrow icon in front of the address or place to indicate that is it a Waypoint.

Tip: To change a Waypoint back to a Stop, select the destination and choose Set as Stop from the pop-up menu.

Saving destinations in your planned trip as favourites

You can save addresses listed on the Plan Trip list as Favourite destinations so you can access them quickly.

  • Select the address you wish to save as a favourite.
  • A pop-up menu will appear containing a list of options. Select Add to Favourites.

Delete a Destination in your Planned Journey

To remove a destination from the Plan Trip list:

  • Select the destination you wish to delete.
  • A pop-up menu will appear containing a list of options. Select the bin icon.
  • To confirm the deletion, select Yes in the Are you Sure? window.

Send Location

Not available in CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad

Once you have planned a route for your journey, you can share a destination with others via SMS. Here’s how:

  1. Select a destination from the Plan Trip list.
  2. A pop-up menu will appear showing a list of options. Select Send This Location.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Enter the phone number of the person you would like to send the destination. Select Preview Message.
    • Press Select from Contacts to choose a contact saved in your mobile devices’ contacts directory. To do this, start to type the name of your contact and select their name when it appears in the list, or just scroll the list and select their name when shown.
  4. CoPilot Live will display the destination you want to send on a map alongside a preview of the standard message to be sent to your chosen recipient.
  5. To change the message, select Edit and type your new message.
  6. Select Send to share the destination with your contact. Information about the destination will be sent via SMS.

When travelling, you can send your location to others via SMS¹

  1. Select Menu > Send Location and choose Current Location to send details of where you are or select Next Destination to send details of where you are going.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Enter the phone number of the person you would like to send your current location/next destination. Select Preview Message.
    • Press Select from Contacts to choose a contact saved in your mobile devices’ contacts directory. To do this, start to type the name of your contact and select their name when it appears in the list, or just scroll the list and select their name when shown.
  3. CoPilot Live will display your current location/next destination on a map alongside a preview of the standard message to be sent to your chosen recipient.
  4. To change the message, select Edit and type your new message.
  5. Select Send to share your current location/next destination with your contact. Information about the destination will be sent via SMS.

Optimizing Stops

CoPilot has an Optimize Stops function, which will automatically rearrange the stops within a trip to create the most efficient order.

When you have planned a trip with more than 3 stops:

  • Select Options
  • Then Optimize Stops from the pop-up menu.

CoPilot will take a few seconds to reorder your stops for the most efficient journey.

Note: Your start point and final destination will not be altered. However, if you want the final destination to be included in the optimisation, select Options from the pop-up menu select Take Breaks and check Optimize Final Destination.

Estimated fuel costs

You can calculate the estimated fuel costs for a trip.

  • Select Options.
  • Select the 'Show Estimated Fuel Costs' checkbox if you would like to display the fuel costs each time you calculate a trip.
  • Enter the average Miles Per Gallon (Average MPG) for your vehicle.
  • Set your currency using the picklist then enter the average cost per gallon.
  • Select OK.

Take Breaks

Set CoPilot to alert you to take a break at regular time intervals for a defined duration of time, for a trip.

  • Select Options.
  • Select the Take Breaks During Trip checkbox
  • Break Every: Select a time interval which you would like to take a break.
  • Break For: Choose how long you would like to a take a break for at each break.
  • Select OK.
Saving a Trip

When you have finished entering all your destinations, you can save your trip to access at a later date, rather than start driving right away.

  • Go to Options
  • Select Save.
  • Enter a name for the trip you are saving. Press Save and the trip will be saved.
Loading a Saved Trip
  • Select Options > Load.
  • Select the trip that you would like to load from the list and press Open.
Deleting a Planned Trip
  • Select Clear.
  • You will be asked to confirm this selection. To continue with deleting the trip select Yes in the Are you Sure? window.

Return Trip

Once you have completed your journey, use CoPilot Live to guide you for your return.

CoPilot Live will calculate a route, using the same roads as your outbound journey, to help you get back to where you started.

  • To head back, select Menu > Plan or Edit Trip > Add Stop > Return Trip.

Route Preview

With CoPilot Live you can preview your journey, before it begins.

*Select Preview and choose one of the following options:

Route Demo: - Shows the route as if driving the journey. In Route Demo, there are a range of preview options. To access these and to adjust the demo, select the demo button.

  • The options are rewind, fast forward, pause, play, stop or play the demo from the beginning. You can also speed up the demo by selecting Faster or slow it down by selecting Slower.
  • In addition to this you can also choose to playback an existing GPS track of a previous or planned journey:
    • Select the track playback button.
    • Pick a track from the list then press Play.

Turn Maps:- Displays a map of each turn of the journey. You can choose to see the Next or Previous turn. Press Close to exit. Itinerary: - Shows each direction in a written list with the distance to each turn. Press Close to exit.

Select Routing Type

CoPilot Live provides the facility to adjust the routing depending on the nature of journey

To do this select the Options menu and the Routing Type.

Choose your preferred routing type, the options are:

  • Quickest
  • Shortest
  • Avoid Expressways
  • Economic

Please note that the CoPilot Live default setting is Economic.

A picklist box allows you to choose from three options relating to toll roads. These are as follows:

  • Allow Tolls
  • Avoid Tolls If Possible
  • Always Avoid Tolls

Set Arrival Time

In this feature you can set a time for when you would like to complete your journey. CoPilot Live will then generate an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) based up on the route.

  • Select Options, then choose Arrival time.
  • Set your time of arrival: Hour, Minutes in increments of five minutes) and AM or PM

Once jounery time is selected, press OK.

Custom Routing Type

Select Options and then Routing Profiles > New > Enter a Profile Name

This function allows you to customise a routing profile for different uses. A customised profile will automatically set a route suitable for the vehicle or journey that you are about to undertake.

Select your Vehicle Type for this new routing profile. Choose from:

  • Automobile
  • RV (Recreational Vehicle)
  • Motorcycle
  • Bicycle
  • Walking

On the following screen, set your speed for the following road types:

  • Motorways
  • Dual Carriage Ways
  • Primary Roads
  • Secondary Roads
  • Local Roads

Choose how to handle Toll Roads on your route. The Options are:

  • Always Avoid
  • Avoid if possible
  • Use.

The Use option is default in the CoPilot application.

Tick or untick the check boxes to Avoid Ferries or use a Scenic Route.

Decide on whether or not to pass through Congestion Zones on your route. Select Avoid or Allow.

Save your profile so you can use it immediately or for future use.

Driving Views

Once you’ve planned a journey and selected GO, CoPilot Live will display a driving view. You can choose from a number of different driving views. Select Menu > Driving Views then pick one of the following driving views:

  • 3D shows your current position, next turn and surrounding roads on a map with a three dimensional perspective
  • 2D shows your current position, next turn and surrounding roads on a map with a two dimensional perspective
  • Driver Safety we recommend this view for safer driving. Driver safety displays a simple turn arrow with concise instructions about your next turn in large type. CoPilot Live will change to a map view as you approach a turn.
  • Itinerary view is a plan for your journey which includes a list of all destinations, waypoints, turn instructions and distances.
  • 2D Next Turn displays your current location and next turn on a 2D map.
  • 2D Destination shows your planned route on a two dimensional map.
  • To change between a map style for the day or night, choose Day Map or Night Map.

Tip: Take a closer look Use the + and - buttons in 2D or 3D driving views to zoom in or out of the map view.

To use a map style for the day:

  • Select, Menu > Driving Views > Day Map

To use a map style for the night: Select, Menu > Driving Views > Night Map

Full and normal screen mode

To display 2D or 3D driving views in full screen mode, select this ^ button. Select this v button again to return to normal mode.

Delete Next Stop

Once you have planned a route and selected GO to start navigating, you may decide not to go on to your next planned destination.

To delete the next destination on your journey, simply select Menu > Delete Next Stop

Save Current Location

You can save your current GPS location as a destination so you can enter it quickly next time.

Here are some situations when this feature might be useful:

  • Once you've parked, save the location so you can find your way back to your vehicle later
  • When your travelling you can save the location of the place where your staying
  • When you want to keep the location details of a memorable place e.g. a great photo location, meeting point, attraction

To save your current GPS location:

  • Select Menu > Save Current location
  • Enter a name for the current location then press OK.

The location will be saved in your Favourites list.

Live Information Services

CoPilot Live Services can help make every journey better by providing real-time information about your location or route via a phone's mobile internet connection. Choose from live traffic and weather reports. In addition, you can share your journey in real-time online with friends or find a hotel or restaurant at your destination using Live Local Search.

CoPilot Live really is your informed travelling companion.

Please note that CoPilot's Live Services require a mobile Internet connection and availability varies by CoPilot product and region. Premium Live services require an additional subscription.

Looking for a place to have a coffee? Need to pick up a few groceries on your way home? With CoPilot Live Local Search, you can search the Internet to find any product, service, brand, place, business, shop or anything you need. Simply type in what you are looking for, choose from a list of search results then let CoPilot Live navigate you there.

  • Select Menu > Live Services > Live Local Search.
  • Type in any search word to find what you need to locate. Press Continue.
  • Select Nearby to find this locally, or choose In another city to key in the city and address details of where you would like to search. A list of search results will be displayed.
  • Select a place from the list. CoPilot Live will display the place on a map with address details and the phone number if available.
    • Press Call to ring using mobile device.
    • Select GO to begin navigating there.

You can also select:

More Results to broaden the search area.
Show Map to display all search results on a map. To return to the search result list, select Show List.

Live Traffic

Premium Live Service. CoPilot Live Services require a mobile internet connection and may incur data charges from your mobile network. This is a premium Live service which may require an additional subscription. For Windows Mobile and Android smartphones, this is available for purchase through CoPilot Central and at www.copilotlive.com. You can download CoPilot Central for free from http://www.copilotlive.com/central. For iPhone & iPad, this can be purchased from within the CoPilot Live application by selecting Menu > CoPilot Store. The availability of the CoPilot Live traffic service varies by region and retailer. Licensing variations may apply.

About CoPilot Live Traffic Service*

The CoPilot Live traffic service helps you plan the best route for your journey by keeping you up to date with the latest traffic information.

CoPilot Live automatically receives regular traffic information updates via the mobile Internet.

CoPilot Live can warn you of any traffic incidents found nearby, on your route or in a city that you are travelling to.

You will be asked if you want to continue along your current route. If not, CoPilot Live can recommend an alternative route.

A traffic bar is displayed in driving views, showing you how many and how far ahead traffic incidents are reported.

To make your journey more relaxed, check for traffic conditions in other locations before you set off.

Setting up the CoPilot Live Traffic Service

1. Traffic information delivered via the Mobile Internet

  • Select Menu > Live Services > Live Traffic > Traffic (GPRS) Connect
  • To enable wireless communications, select OK.

Note: To use traffic information delivered via the mobile Internet, you will need to have wireless Internet enabled on your mobile device. To find out if your device has wireless Internet or if your SIM is data enabled, please contact your mobile network operator. Using wireless internet with the live service may result in data charges from your mobile network operator.

Search for Traffic Incidents

To search for traffic incidents near to your current location:

  • Select Menu > Live Services > Live Traffic > Nearby

To search for traffic incidents on your route:

  • Select Menu > Live Services > Live Traffic > On my route

To search for traffic incidents in a City:

  • Select Menu > Live Services > LiveTraffic > In another city.
  • Enter the city/town name of where you would like to check for traffic incidents.

Using Traffic Incident Reports

CoPilot Live will display traffic incidents reported nearby, on your route or in a city.

To view more detailed information about a traffic incident like severity, average travelling speed, lane or road closures:

  • First select a road with reported traffic incidents from the list. This will display more detailed information about specific traffic incidents on a road
  • Select from the following options:
    • Pick a specific incident to show a more detailed traffic report.
    • Choose to either Ignore or try to Avoid traffic incidents. Press the button to switch between ignore and avoid.
    • Map to display the incident on a map.

For all reported traffic incidents on a road, you can…

  • Map – to display all reported traffic incidents on a map.
  • Ignore – to continue on your planned route.
  • Avoid– calculates a route which avoids all reported incidents.

You can also…

  • Map - to display all reported traffic incidents on a map.

Traffic Settings

To adjust the alert settings and to define how CoPilot Live uses GPRS traffic information, select: Menu > Live Services> Live Traffic > Settings. Then select from these options:

  • Wireless Traffic: Select GPRS Wireless to receive traffic information using the mobile Internet
  • Speech: Choose under which circumstances traffic incidents are spoken by CoPilot. The options are Always, Never or Only when driving.
  • Updates: CoPilot Live will update the traffic information it receives at the time interval chosen here.
  • Range: CoPilot Live will provide traffic information within the radius defined here, based on your GPS position.

CoPilot LiveLink™

To use this service, you will need to create a CoPilot ID. CoPilot Live services require a mobile internet connection and may incur data charges from your mobile network.

The Live Link application in CoPilot Live is a free to use* service that allows you to share your location on-screen with other CoPilot users and online with friends, family and colleagues.

People visiting the Live Link website at http://live.alk.com can login and send you new trip locations and other comments via Instant Messaging, directly to your CoPilot Live.

In addition, you can use Live Link to organise your own CoPilot Community. View the locations of all your CoPilot friends and send them Instant Messages – all from your mobile phone.

To use Live Link When you first setup your CoPilot Live, you will be asked to create a CoPilot ID. Use your CoPilot ID to login to Live Link by going to:

  • Menu > Live Services > Live Link.
  • Select Connect to access the Mobile Internet.

Once connected, you can do the following:

  • Add/Delete friends – Invite other CoPilot users to become friends. You and the other CoPilot user will be connected if the invitee accepts the invitation.
  • Block buddies – You can hide your status from all friends globally or on individual basis.
  • Show Status – Displays which of your friends are on and offline.
  • Pending - Means that the invitee has not accepted your invitation yet.
  • Alert When User Signs On – If this is checked on, a small alert will be displayed.
  • Send Text/Destination message – You can send text and trip messages to friends.
  • Edit the Display name – You can customise the Display name of your friend.

You can invite non CoPilot users to share your location in real time on the LiveLink web site by adding them as a friend. An email will be sent to your friend explaining how to view your location in real time on the web.

You can of course switch off LiveLink location sharing at any time if you do not wish to be tracked.

Live Weather

CoPilot Live services require a mobile internet connection and may incur data charges from your mobile network.

CoPilot Live makes it easy to check the weather conditions and forecast at your current location, destination, or any city.

Instantly get current weather or a 5 day weather forecast at the touch of a button.

  • To check weather at your current location, select Menu > Live Services > Live Weather > Local weather
  • To check weather at your final destination: select Menu > Live Services > Live Weather > At my destination
  • To check weather in a city: select Menu > Live Services > Live Weather > In another city. Enter the city/town name of where you would like to check the weather conditions.

Using weather reports

CoPilot Live will show the current weather and a 5 day forecast.

  • Select a day to view more detailed weather information.

Roadside Assistance

CoPilot Live Services require a mobile internet connection and may incur data charges from your mobile network. This service is available in certain regions only. You need to have had a GPS fix to use this service.

On your journey, if something unexpected happens to your vehicle, CoPilot Live can help you and quickly get in touch with your preferred roadside assistance service company. It also makes it easy for you to tell the company exactly where you are.

  • Select Menu > Live Services > Roadside Assistance.
  • Your CoPilot Live will show the details of a roadside assistance company.

You can:

  • Press CALL to contact the company by phone to get help.
  • View details of your location, like your nearest address, or latitude and longitude.
  • Select Show Map to display your location on a map. To return to details of your location, select Your Location.

Settings

Personalise your CoPilot Live to suit you through the settings menu.

The first time you start CoPilot Live, the settings for some of the more advanced features might be hidden. This is to help you get started with the key features quickly and easily.

To show more settings, select Menu > Settings > Show More Settings.

To reduce the number of settings displayed, so you can easily access those you might use most often, select Menu > Settings > Show Fewer Options.

Setting routing preferences

You can set up your routing preferences to best suit you. Here’s how.

Select Menu > Settings > Routing.

The available settings are:

  • Vehicle type: Choose from Automobile, RV, Motorcycle, Bicycle or Walking.
  • Tolls: Choose to Use, Avoid if Possible or Always Avoid all toll roads your route may encounter.
  • Select More to see additional routing settings:
  • Avoid Ferries: Select the tick box to Avoid Ferries along your route.
  • Scenic Route: Select this tick box to be guided along a route with scenic surroundings.
  • Congestion Zones: Set CoPilot to Avoid or Allow congestion charge zones, or to Warn when driving through one.

Map Styles

CoPilot offers a range of industry standard and attractive map styles.

Select Menu > Settings > Map Styles.

You can set a different map style for the day and night time.

  • To set a map style for the daytime use the Day map style list.
  • To set a map style for the night-time, use the Night map style list.

CoPilot will automatically switch between the day and night map styles you have selected when it starts to get light or dark outside. CoPilot will use the UTC time (provided via GPS) if available, or the time set on your device.

Map Display

2D Map Rotation: Choose Heading Up to always be travelling upwards on the screen, or select North Up to hold the map static as you travel along your route.

Turn Restrictions: Choose whether to display turn restrictions by checking or unchecking the tickbox.

Sound

To adjust the sound on your CoPilot Live:

  • Select Menu > Settings > Sound.
  • You can increase and decrease the volume using the < and > arrow buttons. *Not available for iPhone or iPad.
  • Select the tick box to Mute the sound.
  • To turn off the button click sounds that occur when you touch your keypad, uncheck the tickbox.
  • You will hear a Welcome to CoPilot Live greeting when you launch CoPilot. If you prefer not to hear this greeting, uncheck the Say Welcome to CoPilot Live tickbox.

Music player volume*

*This feature is exclusive to CoPilot Live on an iPhone and iPad.

When listening to your tunes using the music player in CoPilot Live, you can set your volume preferences for music and CoPilot Live voice instructions.

Select Menu > Settings > Sound.

Choose between:

  • Mute music during voice prompt
  • Quiet music during voice prompts
  • Music and voice prompt play at the same volume
  • No voice prompts while music is playing.

GPS

GPS Setup

This feature is not available in CoPilot Live for Android phones, iPhone or iPad.

You may need to setup your GPS receiver before you can begin navigating. Initial setup takes just a few minutes, before you start, select the type of GPS receiver you are using to show the relevant instructions.

Inbuilt GPS Receiver

If your mobile device has a built-in GPS receiver, CoPilot Live will automatically use this for navigation.

Note: CoPilot Live must recognize and be able to connect to your mobile devices’ built in GPS to use it by default. You may need to try connecting to it manually if CoPilot Live can’t connect to it automatically.

To setup your built-in GPS receiver manually:

  • Select Menu > Settings > GPS > Setup GPS
  • On the Setup GPS Receiver screen choose Search for GPS connection.

CoPilot Live will automatically find and connect to the GPS receiver in your device.

  • Once GPS setup is complete, select OK.

You can also set up your inbuilt GPS receiver using the Advanced Options, here’s how:

  • Select Menu > Settings > GPS > Setup GPS
  • On the Setup GPS Receiver screen, select Advanced Options.
  • Select Built-in to use your device’s inbuilt GPS receiver.
  • Choose between Automatic and Manual setup. We recommend Automatic setup.

Automatic: CoPilot Live will automatically find and connect to the GPS receiver in your device. Manual: You will need to select the COM Port that the GPS is connected to and the BAUD rate for the device. Please refer to the user manual of your mobile device for this information.

  • Once GPS setup is complete, select OK.
Bluetooth GPS Receiver

You will need to create a partnership between your Bluetooth GPS receiver and mobile device before you can begin navigating. Here’s how:

  • Switch on your Bluetooth receiver.
  • Select Menu > Settings > GPS > Setup GPS.
  • On the Setup GPS Receiver screen, select Advanced Options.
  • Select Bluetooth as your GPS receiver type. CoPilot will automatically begin searching for Bluetooth devices in your immediate vicinity. Once it has completed the search it will display a list of all nearby Bluetooth devices.
  • Select your GPS receiver from the list to pair it with your mobile device.
GPS Performance

It's important that the location, date and time are set correctly on your mobile device to ensure that the GPS information you receive is accurate. The first time you use a GPS receiver it may take a few minutes to determine your current position. In future, your position will be found much faster. To ensure you have a strong GPS signal, make sure that the GPS receiver has a clear line of sight to the sky. Large objects, like big trees and tall building, can sometimes interfere with the GPS signal. CoPilot Live uses enhanced positioning technology to provide continued guidance even when the GPS signal is lost while travelling, like when you’re driving in a tunnel. The In tunnel mode icon will be displayed. You will not be able to get a GPS signal inside buildings, garages, multi-storey and basement car parks.

GPS Status

To check the GPS Status, select Menu > Settings > GPS > GPS Status The GPS Status screen shows information about the GPS signal. You can see your current latitude and longitude position, the UTC time and date, your speed and your elevation (feet above sea level).

GPS Signal Strength

To see the signal strength of GPS satellites, select Menu > Settings > GPS > GPS Status > Satellites.

POI Display

You can set when to display POIs on a map.

  • Select Menu > Settings > POI Display.
  • Choose to show POIs Always, When Stopped or Never.
  • To see or change which POI categories should be shown on the map, select Currently Displayed POIs.
    • Select specific POI categories to display by checking the boxes.

Note: POIs will not be displayed in 3D view if 3D Landmarks (optional premium content) are enabled

POI Brand Logos

In certain regions and products, CoPilot Live includes logos of some of the World's leading brands of hotels, restaurants, fuel stations and more. It makes it easy to find a familiar brand, even when in an unfamiliar location.

POI Alerts

This option is only adjustable when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

You can choose which POI categories should be displayed on screen and set the distance ahead to report for these by adjusting the POI Alerts.

Select Menu > Settings > POI Alerts.

  • To display POI alerts, tick the box to Show POI Alerts.
  • You can set the distance ahead to report for POIs using the arrow buttons.
  • Select whether to show POIs that are On Route or Near Route.

You can choose which POI categories to display.

  • First Select POIs to Alert.
  • Select specific POI categories to display by checking the boxes. Select OK to apply the settings.

Once you have set up your CoPilot Live to alert for POIS, a POI icon will appear in the driving views when identified.

  • Select the POI icon.

A POI Alert screen will be displayed. You can choose to select:

  • Next POI to view
  • Previous POI
  • GO to start navigating to the POI.

Manage POIs

NOTE: Not available in CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad/Laptop.

You can add or remove additional POIs to/from your CoPilot Live, for example your favourite places, restaurants or other locations.

You can you POIs to existing POI categories or create your own personal categories.

This option is only accessible when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

To begin,

  • Select Menu > Settings > Manage POIs > Edit POIs
  • Press the Add button.
  • Choose to add an address, contact, intersection, map location, coordinates or a photo location to your POI database.
  • The next screen allows you to select a POI category in which to place you new POI or create a New Category.

To add to an existing POI category

  • Select a category.
  • Enter an appropriate name and press the Continue button. This will add the POI to this category and also the My POI data set.

To create a New Category

  • Press the New Category button to enter a name for the personalized POI.
  • You can then Pick an Image to associate with the new POI that you have created.
  • Name This Place and press the Continue button. This new POI will then be added to the Manage POIs data set.

Note: you can also import groups of POIs into CoPilot using the CoPilot Central desktop software

Edit POI Sets

NOTE: Not available in CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad/Laptop

This feature allows you to manage and edit POI data sets either created by yourself or purchased and downloaded to CoPilot Live through CoPilot Central.

  • Press Edit POI Sets
  • Select the data list that you want to adapt and press the Edit button. You can edit a specific record or add another record following the same steps outlined in Manage POIs.

Safety Camera Alerts*+

*This feature is not available in North America and certain other regions.

+Safety camera alerts are based on the speed limits of the road, rather than for a particular vehicle type.

In many countries of Western Europe, CoPilot Live is pre-loaded with a database of safety camera locations. If warnings are enabled, CoPilot will automatically alert you on the approach to a camera with an on-screen and audio warning.

To enable this feature or to adjust the distance at which you want to be alerted:

  • Select Menu > Settings > Safety Alerts.
  • Enable or Disable the alerts by checking or unchecking the Display Safety Alerts box.
  • Adjust the distance before a safety camera you would like to hear the alert.

To get the latest safety camera database, select:

  • Menu > Updates.
  • Press Check for Updates.
  • You will need to connect to the mobile Internet to check for and download new updates for your CoPilot Live. CoPilot Live will automatically check for new updates.
  • A list of the latest available updates will be shown.
  • Select Safety Cameras then press Download.
  • Once you have successfully downloaded the latest updates, you will need to restart your CoPilot Live for these to take effect.

Note: For Windows Mobile and Android Smartphones, you can import the latest safety camera database free of charge using the CoPilot Central desktop software.

Speed Limit Warnings

*This feature is available as standard in CoPilot Live v8. Availability varies by region.

CoPilot Live can let you know the speed limit of a road, for safer and more economical driving.

Select or deselect the Show speed limit box to choose whether or not to display the speed limit of a road.

CoPilot Live can warn you when driving faster than a set speed.

  • Select Show Speed Warning.
  • Set the speed above which point CoPilot Live should warn you when your driving is faster than the speed limit for the road you are on.
  • To hear a warning sound when your speed is faster than the speed limit for a road, select the enable speed warning sound box.

Please always respect the speed limit.

Guidance

This option is only adjustable when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

You can adjust the way CoPilot Live guides you.

Select Menu > Settings > Guidance.

Turn Guidance: Your CoPilot Live shows the turning you should take after the next approaching turn. From the selection of distances, adjust the distance at which you would like to see the turn following the next turn to be displayed.

Walking Mode: When you are using CoPilot Live while walking, select Display Breadcrumb to show a dotted line between your start and end destinations to help you navigate.

Turn Warnings: Select the distance(s) before a turn, you would like to hear CoPilot Live warn you when you are approaching a turn. The options available are: 2 miles, 1 mile, 500 yards. You can also choose how long in seconds before a turn you want to be warned.

Driver Safety

This option is only adjustable when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

You can change your Driver Safety view settings. To do this:

  • Select Menu > Settings > Driver Safety.
  • Select Display Map Near Turns to show a 3D map as you approach a turn.
  • When Display Map Near Turns is ticked, select a distance to decide how near to a turn CoPilot Live should switch from Driver Safety to a 3D driving view.

Lane Assist

This feature is available as standard in CoPilot Live v8. Availability varies by region.

Your CoPilot Live gives you clear, enhanced guidance at complex junctions and motorway exits by showing you which lane you need to be in.

  • For help with finding the way at junctions and motorway exits, select display lane view near exit.
  • Choose from the different distance options for when to show the lane assistance display at motorway exits.
  • Decide when to hide the lane assistance display as you approach a turn, select one of the distance options.

CoPilot ClearTurn™

This feature is available as standard in CoPilot Live v8. Availability varies by region.

CoPilot Live can provide real sign post information displayed on your screen as an additional visual aid while on the road.

CoPilot Clear Turn™ provides a virtual view at complex junctions and motorway exits. The real sign post information and visual instructions displayed on the road highlight the turn and lane you need. Clear Turn is only available in 3D driving views and in landscape screen orientation.

Language and Voice

You can change the language used for all buttons, information and instructions displayed on-screen and spoken by your CoPilot Live.

  • Select Menu > Settings > Language and Voice.
  • Choose a language from the list.
  • Once you have selected a language, you can then go on to choose a voice.
  • Select a voice from the list. You can:
    • Select Test to hear a sample of your chosen voice.
    • Press Download (if available) to download the selected voice to your phone.

Your CoPilot Live has two different kinds of voices:

  1. Human voice – using the voice recording of an actor,These voices provide pre-recorded spoken instructions such as Turn Right.
  2. Computer voice¹ - produced using Text To Speech (TTS) computer technology. TTS converts written text into a computer generated voice which mimics a human voice. These voices provide spoken instructions and can also pronounce street names, live messages, traffic incidents, weather reports and other written information.

¹Text To Speech voice guidance is a premium feature. For Windows Mobile, this is available for purchase through CoPilot Central and at www.copilotlive.com. For iPhone and iPad, this can be purchased from within the CoPilot Live application by selecting Menu > CoPilot Store. Availability varies by region.

Note: CoPilot Live can use your Android phone’s text to speech feature. You will need to download and install Android Text to Speech* on your smartphone. Please refer to your Android smartphones user manual for details on how to do this. *Available on Android 1.6 and 2.0 OS phones.

  • If you want your CoPilot Live to provide full voice instructions, for example say street names etc., you will need to select a voice with TTS, which will be marked with an asterix.

Day and Night Mode

Set your CoPilot Live to use different maps styles for the Day and Night, or choose Automatic to switch between the day and night map styles you have selected.

CoPilot will use the UTC time if available, or the time set on your device to change automatically.

Select Menu > Settings > Day/Night mode.

Units of Measure

To set your preferences for the type of units used in maps and instructions, select Menu > Settings > Units of Measure.

Choose from Imperial (distances in miles) and Metric (Kilometers)

Screen Orientation

Decide how CoPilot Live should be displayed on your mobile device.

  • Select Menu > Settings > Screen Orientations.
  • The options are Portrait, Landscape or use device’s settings.
  • You can also change the screen orientation of the CoPilot Live display, by selecting landscape or portrait in the Options menu.

Backlight

Adjust your mobile device’s backlight settings to save battery power.

  • Select Menu > Settings > Backlight.

The options are On with GPS, Always On, On Near Turn, or Use Device’s Settings.

Not available on CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad.

Information Bar

Once you’ve planned a journey and selected GO, CoPilot Live will display a driving view with useful information about your journey at the base of the screen.

You can decide how the information bar should be displayed and select what information is shown.

  • Select Menu > Settings > Info Bar.

To decide how the information bar is displayed, choose from the following:

  • Single Display - To show only one of the information options, for example your estimated time of arrival at a destination
  • Dual Display - Lets you select two information options, for example your estimated time of arrival and distance remaining to destination.
  • Loop Single Display – Shows all information about your journey by displaying one option then rotating to another.

Tip: You can also display the info bar by tapping on it (touch screen devices) or by pressing Display (non touch screen devices).

You can select what information is displayed. Choose from:

  • Destination
  • Current Road
  • Next Crossroad
  • Nearest Town
  • Estimated Time of Arrival
  • Estimated Travel Time
  • Speed
  • Distance Remaining
  • Altitude
  • Latitude/Longitude
  • Heading

Themes

Personalise the interface of your CoPilot Live by selecting a theme which best suits your personal taste in colours and styles .

Select Menu > Settings > Themes.

Not available on CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad.

Routing Profiles

This option is only adjustable when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

Use routing profiles to choose how CoPilot Live routes you on your journey.

  • Select Menu > Settings > Routing.
  • Select routing profile to pick an existing routing profile from the list.

To create a new routing profile:

  • Select New.
  • Enter a name for the new routing profile, for example fastest roads.
  • Select your vehicle type, choose from Automobile, RV, Motorcycle, Bicycle, or Walking.
  • For each road type, first set CoPilot Live to Strongly Avoid, Avoid, Neutral, Favour or Strongly Favour certain roads when calculating routes, then set your preferred speed for each one. For example, to create the fastest route for your journey, you might choose to strongly favour motorways and set your speed at the maximum speed limit for that road.
  • Toll Roads: Choose to Use, Avoid if Possible or Always Avoid tolls along your route.
  • Avoid Ferries: Tick the box to avoid ferries along your route, if possible.
  • Scenic Route: Tick the box to be guided along a route with scenic surroundings.
  • Congestion Zones: Set CoPilot to Avoid or Allow congestion charge zones, or to Warn when driving through one.

GPS Track Playback

This option is only visible when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

CoPilot Live automatically records your journeys as GPS Track files.

You can playback a previously completed journey.

  • Select Menu > Settings > GPS > Track Playback
  • Select the GPS track from the list and press Play.

To control how the GPS track plays:

  • Select Demo.
  • You can rewind, fast forward, pause, stop or play the track again from the beginning. You can also speed up the track by selecting Faster or slow it down by selecting Slower.
  • To return to the track list, select GPS Tracks.

Not available on CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad.

Play Demo

You can watch a demonstation to see how CoPilot can guide you on your journey.

Select Menu > Settings > Play Demo.

To control how the demo plays:

  • Select Demo.
  • You can rewind, fast forward, pause, stop or play the demo again from the beginning. You can also speed up the demo by selecting Faster or slow it down by selecting Slower.
  • You can also choose to playback a GPS track. To do this, first select GPS Tracks then pick a track from the list and press Play.

Music Player*

*This feature is exclusive to CoPilot Live on an iPhone or iPad.

On your iPhone, you can browse, play and enjoy the tunes loaded on your music player.

Select Menu > Music Player.

You can:

  • Tap to play, pause, fast forward, or rewind a song.
  • Flick through music by Songs, Artists, Albums, Playlists and More.
  • Shuffle and repeat songs.

Connect to Facebook*

*This feature is exclusive to CoPilot Live on an iPhone or iPad.
You can share your journey with your friends directly on your Facebook wall, including where you are, where you are going and even the tunes you are listening to.

  • Select Menu > Post Facebook Status.
  • Enter your Facebook account's email address and password. Select Connect.
  • You can choose to post updates automatically or manually to your Facebook wall.

Select Logout to exit Facebook.

CoPilot Store*

*This feature is exclusive to CoPilot Live on an iPhone or iPad.

You can purchase additional content for your CoPilot Live in app through the CoPilot Store.

Select Menu > CoPilot Store.

Data Region

This option is only visible when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

If you have maps for various regions, you can choose which maps to use depending on where you’re travelling.

Select Menu > Settings > Data Regions.

To save storage space on your memory card/device, you may wish to delete maps of a data region that you are not using regularly. To do this:

  • Select Menu > Settings > Data Regions.
  • Select the map you wish to delete then press the bin button.
  • You will be asked if you want to delete the map. Select Yes to delete the map or No not to.

It's simple and quick to get back the maps, anytime you need.

  • Select Menu > Download Maps then reselect the maps you require.

See the Download Maps section for more detailed information on how to do this.

Not available on CoPilot Live for iPhone or iPad.

Tip: You can use CoPilot Central to manage your maps. Download the CoPilot Central PC application for free from http://www.copilotlive.com/central

Licensing

This option is only visible when Show More Settings is selected from the Settings menu.

To see Information about the license for your CoPilot Live product, select Menu > Settings > Licensing.

Information about your license includes the type of license for a given product and the features licensed.

The Licensing setting also allows you to upgrade or deactivate your license.

Upgrading your CoPilot Live License

Once you’ve purchased an upgrade license you will receive a product key for your upgrade by email.

  • Select Upgrade.
  • Enter your product key for the upgrade.
  • Activate your upgrade license following the onscreen instructions.

Deactivating your CoPilot Live License If you wish to deactivate your CoPilot Live license, select Deactivate and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note: You can move your CoPilot Live v8 to another device if it is running the same operating system as the original, e.g. from one Windows Mobile to another Windows Mobile phone; Android phone to Android phone or iPhone to iPhone. It is not possible to move between platforms, e.g. Windows Mobile to Android and you can only have CoPilot Live v8 installed on one device at a time. To move your CoPilot Live, you must first deactivate your license from your existing device by selecting Menu > Settings > Licensing. You can then re-install CoPilot Live on the different phone.

About CoPilot

Information about the version, maps, POIs and product key for your CoPilot Live application can be accessed by selecting Menu > Settings > About CoPilot.

Restore Default Settings

You can restore your CoPilot Live to its original factory settings.

Select Menu > Settings > Restore default settings. All your settings will be cleared and reset. Your favourite and recent locations will not be deleted.

Not available in CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad. For iPhone and iPad, tap Settings > CoPilot > Full Reset and tap ON.

Download Maps

You can download maps for your CoPilot Live directly to your phone.

  • Select Menu > Download Maps.
  • Select the maps you require, for example, Europe > UK > All of UK.

Note: Maps that you are licensed to download will be highlighted in blue. You can purchase additional maps from the CoPilot Central webstore and download these to your phone. Visit http://www.copilotlive.com/central to download CoPilot Central to your PC for free.

  • Your CoPilot Live will show you the maps you selected and display the size of the map file to download. Confirm your map selection then press Download Now.

Important: We recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to download your maps. If Wi-Fi is not available, CoPilot Live will use your phone’s default mobile Internet connection for download maps which are less than 50MB in size.

  • Your CoPilot Live will start to download the maps to your phone.
  • You can continue using your CoPilot Live while your maps are being downloaded.
  • Select Menu > Download Maps. The status bar shows you the progress of the map download.
  • Once the map download is complete, select OK. If you have more than one map region on your phone, you will be asked to select a map region from the list.
  • Select the maps you require and press OK. For example, you might select UK to use the maps you just downloaded.
  • Exit and restart your CoPilot Live.

Tip: You can change which maps to use at anytime, select Menu > Settings > Data Region.

Note: If your CoPilot Live closes before the map download is complete, you will be asked if you would like to continue with the map download when you restart your CoPilot Live. Select Yes to continue or No not to.

Updates for your CoPilot Live

We recommend you regularly check for new updates for your CoPilot Live.

To get the latest updates, select:

  • Menu > Updates.
  • Press Check for Updates.
  • You will need to connect to the mobile Internet to check for and download new updates for your CoPilot Live. CoPilot Live will automatically check for new updates.
  • A list of the latest available updates will be shown.
  • From the list, select the updates you require then press download.
  • Once you have successfully downloaded the latest updates, you will need to restart your CoPilot Live for these to take effect.

To ensure you always have the latest updates, select the Check for updates when CoPilot starts tickbox.

Hide CoPilot

You can hide CoPilot Live so you can use the other features and programs on your mobile device.

  • Select Hide CoPilot from the main menu.
  • To return to CoPilot, select the CoPilot icon on the Start menu of your mobile device.

Not available on CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad.

Exit CoPilot

To quit the CoPilot Live application, select Exit CoPilot from the main menu.

Not available on CoPilot Live for iPhone/iPad.

Uninstalling Previous Versions of CoPilot Live

Before you install CoPilot Live v8 you must first remove the previous version of CoPilot from your mobile device.

  • Please note: if CoPilot Live 7 was pre-installed on your phone, for example O2 Xda Orbit 2, CoPilot Live 7 software will be restored if you ever hard reset your phone.
  • Important: HTC Touch Diamond 2 and HTC TouchPro 2 Unfortunately CoPilot Live v8 cannot currently be installed on those Touch Diamond 2 or Touch Pro 2 phones which were supplied with a factory-installed trial version of CoPilot Live 7.

Step 1: Remove the previous version CoPilot memory card from your device

  • Note: if you plan to use your previous version CoPilot card for your CoPilot Live v8 software then you will need to delete the previous version '2577' and 'CoPilot' folders from this card

Step 2: Uninstall your previous version of CoPilot from your device

a) Windows Mobile Touchscreen phones/PDAs

  1. On your device, select Start > Settings > System> Remove Programs
  2. Select CoPilot Pocket PC from the list of programs displayed
  3. Tap on ‘Remove’

b) Windows Mobile non touchscreen phones

  1. On your device select Start > Settings > Remove Programs
  2. Select CoPilot Smartphone from the list of programs displayed
  3. Select ‘Menu’ and then ‘Remove’

Step 3: Delete the CoPilot license file on your device

a) Windows Mobile Touchscreen phones/PDAs

  1. On your device select Start > Programs > File Explorer > MyDevice > Windows
  2. Select and delete the license file as follows:
  • CoPilot Live 7 cppc7.dat
  • CoPilot Live 6 cppc6.dat
  • CoPilot Live Pocket PC 5 cppocketpc5.dat or cppc5.dat

b) Windows Mobile non touchscreen phones

  1. On your device select Start > File Explorer > My Device > My Documents
  2. Select and delete the license file as follows:
  • CoPilot Live 7 cpl7.dat
  • CoPilot Live 6 cpsp6.dat
  • CoPilot Live Pocket PC 5 cpsp.dat

Step 4: Restart your device

  1. Press and hold the power button to fully switch-off your mobile device
  2. After re-starting your mobile device you can now install CoPilot Live v8

Step 5: Uninstall previous version CoPilot desktop software or CoPilot Central 1

If you installed the CoPilot PC software that was supplied with your previous version of CoPilot, please uninstall it from your PC

a) Removing CoPilot Live Central Software (CoPilot Live 7)

  1. Select Start > Control Panel or Start > Settings > Control Panel
  2. Select Add or Remove Programs
  3. Select CoPilot - Central and press the Remove button
  4. Follow the instructions on-screen to remove CoPilot Central
  5. Find and delete the ‘Central’ folder from c:\program files\copopilot(Default Location) or the location where the files were installed
  6. Re-start your desktop computer/laptop to complete the un-installation

b) Removing CoPilot Live Desktop Software (CoPilot Live 5 or 6)

  1. Select Start > Control Panel or Start > Settings > Control Panel
  2. Select Add or Remove Programs
  3. Select CoPilot - PocketPC and press the Remove button
  4. Follow the instructions on-screen to remove CoPilot Desktop software
  5. Find and delete one of following files (depending on your version of CoPilot Live) from your PC’s Windows folder
  • CoPilot Live 6 CPPC6.DAT or CPSP6.DAT
  • CoPilot Live Pocket PC 5 CPPOCKETPC5 or CPPC5.DAT
  1. Re-start your desktop computer/laptop to complete the un-installation
